The International Novi Sad Literature Festival 2006

The Festival is going to be held in Novi Sad, from 28 August to 3 September 2006.

This is a new literature festival featuring poets, novelists and critics who represent and promote the spirit of contemporary literature.

The programme of the Festival includes afternoon and evening readings and discussions in various venues throughout the city, as well as visiting other towns in Serbia. The readings will represent national literatures, groups of authors or single authors. The participants will go on a cruising on the Danube (from Novi Sad to Belgrade) and visit the monasteries on Fruska Gora (a mountain near Novi Sad).

Novi Sad is the capital of the Province of Vojvodina and the second biggest city in Serbia Its population is over 300,000. It is an important economic, culture and university center. The center of the city was built during 18th and 19th centuries, and on the opposite bank of the Danube, there is a magnificent fortress built in 17th century. The monasteries on Fruska Gora were built in the period from 16th to 18th centuries. A small town of Sremski Karlovci is situated on Fruska Gora. During the Festival, a ceremony of awarding the prize to the best young Serbian poet will be held there.
